Hajime Higaki

Imabari, Japan 1908 - São Paulo SP 1998

Painter. He studied with Iori Saito and Takeji Fukushima, and at the Kawabata Academy in Tokyo, Japan, in the 1920s. At that time, he held his first individual show at the YMCA in Imabari. He immigrated to Brazil in 1929 where, a few years later, he attended the School of Fine Arts in São Paulo, with Lopes de Leão. In 1935, he became one of the founders of the Seibi-Kai Group, participating frequently in its exhibitions. He sporadically attends the drawing sessions of the Santa Helena Group; in addition, it participates in Grupo 15 and Grupo Guanabara. In 1959 he traveled to Paris, France to study and meet artists.
