Description
The diagonal composition of the work distinguishes two unique moments based on biblical scriptures:
Actio = Action
The hand that tries to reach the fruits represents the first Adam, who is thirsty for sin. He chooses to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (represented by grapes). Disobedience. The creature acts in search of self-sufficiency, independence from the creator, and power. Sin reigns, humanity falls. This action corrupts the Adamic alliance. The first sacrifice (shedding of animal blood) is necessary to “wash away” man's sin.
Reactio = Reaction
The same hand represents the last Adam, who is Christ (God the son - second person of the trinity). He comes as a living sacrifice to wash away the sins of all mankind (from creation to Jesus' return) with his own blood. The cross represents the fulfillment of the prophecy of Jesus' coming and, at the same time, the last covenant established between God and man.
